The Answers Web Site Design and Promotion Companies Should Give:

1. How much will a web site cost?

This can range from a few hundred dollars to thousands. It depends on:
• What do you want to achieve – now and in the future?
• What design and marketing options should you consider to achieve this?
• What your priorities are and how much budget are you prepared to spend to get them?

If one of your key priorities is to have affordable web site design, then see our web page on packages and costs as well as our Special Promotion Package.

2. How long will it take to set up?
We can set up a web site within weeks (days for a simple site) but we need the content to be fully available.

Many businesses understandably want to develop the content themselves. However, this can take a very long time because of the day to day pressures of other work and perhaps a lack of some of the internet marketing and copywriting skills required in house. Content development is usually the longest part of setting up a web site.

Las Vegas Internet Services content development and copywriting support can help you get your project back on track. See our page on professional copywriting for web sites and marketing campaigns.

3. Do I need a domain?
A domain is an internet address for your site. Yes – you need one.

Las Vegas Internet Services can help you research availability and obtain one that will work well for you. See our internet domain marketing and management service

4. What’s hosting?
Your web site needs to run on a computer. This is normally done on a server which is shared with other sites or dedicated just to your site. This is not a simple task in practice and most companies decide to have a specialist ‘host’ company do this for them.

Las Vegas Internet Services provides different web hosting packages to suit your web site needs.

5. Can’t you just do the design and we can think about the content later?
Yes, of course, but ………:

1. Your content will affect the site structure and navigation. These form a major part of the site design. The site structure and broad content needs to be known before your design is created.
2. Ideas frequently develop and change during the process of creating the content. This may impact on the design.
3. We normally recommend the design is left until the content is substantially completed to prevent wasted time and (your) money.

6. Isn’t search engine optimization just putting keywords in a meta tag?
No.

Keyword meta tags (special line of coding containing keywords) have very little impact these days on most engines. Good search engine profiles usually come from:

• Selecting the most productive keywords
• Building these sufficiently into the site text and code
• Registering properly with the engines
• Building up relevant incoming links from other sites
• Monitoring and adapting to changing demands
See our page on web site optimization and promotion for more details.

7. If I have registered with search engines, why isn’t my site at the top of the search results?
It could be because your site design is not suitable for search engines. (Flash, Frames and Dynamic sites can all cause problems.) Your pages may not be sufficiently tailored for the keyword phrases concerned, or your site not be attracting enough relevant links from other sites.

See our page on web site optimization and promotion for more details.

8. Aren’t the search engines free?
They used to be but most now charge in one way or another. Google remains free as do some smaller engines still. Most businesses should budget for some expenditure in practice.

See our page on web site optimization and promotion for more details.

9. Do you need to re-register your site with search engines frequently to ensure good profile?
It is unnecessary, costly, and sometimes even counter productive to re-register pages with engines regularly, e.g. monthly. Some web site submission companies still promote this service for obvious commercial reasons. Our advice is in general NOT to do this, particularly since often this is undertaken using automatic search engine registration software to keep costs down. This can be ineffective for some engines and even be penalized by them.

10. Do you have to register with thousands of search engines?
Whilst there is a huge number of search engines worldwide, many have a niche geographic or industry focus. The vast majority of searches, however, use the biggest ones (Yahoo, Google and the like). Many minor ones (and some major ones too) use one or two central directories or databases. It makes business sense therefore to concentrate on optimization of your positions with the internet big players and /or databases. Smaller engines may be particularly relevant for your site however, e.g. one specializing in your industry or geographic region.

11. Why isn’t my new dynamic web site performing well with the search engines?
Dynamic (database driven web sites) can perform well with search engines but their navigation can cause problems. This can be corrected however. You also need to optimize the pages just like a static site.

See our page on professional database driven web site design.

12. How do we arrange to have credit card payments online?
The easiest way is probably to use a Payment Service Provider (PSP). Your site will link to their secure server to take the card details and they will handle the payment until it arrives (usually some time later) in your bank account.

You may need to obtain an Internet agreement from your bank or card acquisition company. A normal Merchant agreement does not cover any receipt of card payment details from the internet.
